Biography

Sarah Hill brings over 25 years experience in energy and environment, with special expertise in renewable energy. She has helped her clients access millions in research and development funding for photovoltaics, batteries/storage, advanced lighting, and smart grid technologies.

Before founding S.E. Hill & Associates, she spent 12 years in Advanced Power Systems at Arthur D. Little, where she worked with a range of industry and government stakeholders and gained in-depth knowledge of clean energy market dynamics.

Her industry experience includes work with manufacturers, multinational energy companies, project developers, utilities, trade associations, and state and federal government agencies.  She has conducted numerous market assessments for emerging energy technologies, and understands the technology development and commercialization process.

Selected projects:

  • For the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF), together with Navigant Consulting, she developed a baseline assessment of the state’s current renewable energy and energy efficiency economy.

  • For the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, she conducted a thorough technology and market assessment for clean power generation technologies, including wind, photovoltaics, fuel cells, landfill gas, hydropower, biomass, and ocean power.

  • For Salt River Project, she conducted a renewable energy technology screening and produced detailed profiles of priority technologies to support the launch of a green power program.

  • For a major multinational energy company, she helped develop a renewable energy strategy to assist in identifying near term and longer-term opportunities to transform their business. The approach included screening a broad range of renewable energy technologies and their potential in key global markets.

  • For a major multinational energy company, she developed a one-day workshop to provide an understanding of wind power markets and project financing. A potential entrant into the wind market, the client wished to understand how wind energy might fit into their business.

Leveraging this experience, Ms. Hill provides valuable strategic guidance to companies seeking competitive awards to help launch clean energy technologies.

Before joining Arthur D. Little, she worked as a chemist and project manager at Battelle Memorial Institute, focusing on the environmental impacts of oil spills. This work cultivated a strong interest in alternative energy and inspired her move to Arthur D. Little.

She received her B.A. in biology from the University of Maine. Graduate coursework includes Environmental Technology, University of London, Imperial College; International Environmental Policy, Tufts University; and Environmental Management, Harvard University Extension.
